The Region of Waterloo manages its own waste and recycle facilities. This new building contains two primary functions: workshop areas for the maintenance of heavy vehicles associated with the landfill and waste transfer stations, and offices and amenity areas for landfill personnel. The workshop areas and wash bay are to the rear of the site and are contained with a high bay pre-cast concrete structure. The offices, change areas and lunchroom are located within a lower glass and concrete volume.
In keeping with Regional policy, this project was designed and constructed to LEED® standards and has achieved LEED® Silver NC (New Construction) certification. Sustainability features include high reflectance roofing, bicycle storage and change rooms, water use reduction and re-use strategies, energy use reduction and optimization, construction waste diversion, low emission products and many other green initiatives.
